the free enzyme. Similarly, the apparent molecular weight of the slower-migrating band will be lower than that of the free aggregate. In our experiments, the molecular weight of the aggregate appears to be more than twice that of the free enzyme. On this basis, one could propose a dimer-hexamer association. Associations of this type are less favourable geometrically than dimer-tetramer or dimer-octamer associations. We regard the question of the subunit composition of the aggregate state of the enzyme as being unresolved at the present time.
